Joy in Work: Deming’s Legacy for Modern IT Management

IT leaders today face unprecedented challenges: distributed teams, rapid technological change, and the pressure to deliver more with fewer resources. Yet many of these challenges echo issues identified decades ago by W. Edwards Deming, whose management philosophy transformed industries worldwide.

In this talk, Shane Parreco will explore how Deming’s principles remain strikingly relevant for IT management in 2025. From fostering a culture of continuous improvement to creating systems that empower rather than constrain, Shane will share actionable insights for building teams that not only perform but also thrive. Participants will leave with a fresh perspective on how Deming’s emphasis on quality, systems thinking, and the “willing worker” can help modern IT organizations navigate complexity, reduce burnout, and unlock joy in work.
